What is a Relaxed Performance?

A relaxed performance of a show is a performance that has been altered in some way to accomodate and be more accessible and enjoyable to audiences who otherwise wouldn't enjoy it or be able to experience the theatre at all.

All relaxed performances don't impose the usual or assumed expectations of audiences sitting still and quiet; some, like this one have further adaptations.

About this performance:

This relaxed performance is specifically tailored to suit children of all ages who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Asperger's, learning disabilities and those who have sensory issues.  It is also ideal for children who can not sit still and quiet for periods of time.  Due to the adaptations, it also makes a great 'first theatre experience' for very young children.  The suggested age is 3+.

What you can expect:

  • A pre-event guide, which has images and text to help familiarise the venue so you can talk about it with your child

  • A meet and greet with the cast and puppets before the show - get to know them first!

  • House lights remain at 50% during the show - this means no darkness and no sudden bright lights.

  • No sudden loud noises - music and sound effects featured will be at an appropriate level.

  • A break out area - if you need to get out of the auditorium, a space with some sensory toys and activities is available at all times.

  • Audience members are free to move seats and come and go as you please.  Seats will be reserved for the selling process, but during the show you may move about.

Meet the Abominable Snowman in this very silly, very snowy adventure into the mountains.

The Abominable Snowman is big and hairy and scary…or is he? With footsteps so big you can fall into them no wonder everyone’s afraid of him. But things are not always as they seem and Snowball isn’t really very scary at all. You'd be better to call him the Adorable Snowman!
