Arts Award at the Civic

The Civic Arts Centre & Theatre has been providing Arts Award for many years.  Arts Award allows young people with an interest in creative arts to develop and further their knowledge and skills, whilst achieving a recognised qualification, equivalent to a GCSE or A Level.  A good way to describe Arts Award is the creative arts alternative to Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Sessions for Home Educated Young People

Dance & Drama

Ages 8-16

Learn about movement, dance forms and stage skills.

Arts & Crafts

Ages 8-18
Learn basic line drawing skills, drawing cartoons and crafts.

  • Sessions must be booked in advance and are in 6 week blocks

  • Each 6 week block costs £45 - this does not include Arts Award moderation fee

  • There are 5 levels; Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold.  The first two are for under 10's.  A student can start Bronze at age 10, but your work can't be submitted until age 11.

  • Discover, Explore and Bronze levels can all be completed in 6 weeks (with some work at home).  Silver can take 3 or 4 six-week blocks and Gold can take up to a year to complete.

  • Bronze is equivalent to a level 4 or below at GCSE. Silver is equivalent to a level 5 or above at GCSE. Gold is equivalent to an A level and carries UCAS points.

  • If a student is working towards an Arts Award qualification they will be expected to attend a show or exhibition (here or at any other venue as one section is to write a review of something you’ve watched or seen) – we can offer discounts on some shows for Arts Award students but they can review free events elsewhere.

  • Anyone 10 or under must be accompanied at all times, students that are older can be left for the session unless they need carers to support them.

  • Students may require their own materials.  This will be clearly stated at the time of booking.

  • Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 10 students.
